Ten individuals found guilty of cyber-bullying against Brigitte Macron

A court in Paris has convicted ten people for carrying out the digital intimidation of Brigitte Macron, the partner of France's leader, Emmanuel Macron.
The accused individuals faced accusations of disseminating untruths regarding her sex and sexual orientation, in addition to making hurtful comments about the couple's significant age difference.
The court issued conditional custodial sentences of a maximum of eight months to the perpetrators. The complete verdict has not yet been published.
A persistent unfounded claim alleging that Brigitte Macron is a transgender woman has spread widely since her husband's initial election in 2017.
This latest legal outcome in France comes as the Macrons initiating a libel case in the United States against political commentator Candace Owens, who has also voiced similar conspiracy theories about the French president's wife's identity.
Their legal filing contends that Owens disregarded any factual proof that refuted her assertions opting to platforming known conspiracy theorists.
Owens has regularly repeated these claims on her show and online platforms, and in March 2024 stated that she would bet her whole career on her insistence that Mrs. Macron is in fact a man.
Brigitte Macron first met her future husband when she worked as an educator at his high school.
The two married in 2007, when the then-29-year-old Emmanuel Macron was 29 and she was in her mid-50s.
